The healing energy of reiki

Reiki, a unique form of alternative therapy often known as energy healing, originated in Japan in the early 20th century. Developed by Mikao Usui, it involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner's palms to the patient, setting it apart from other forms of healing.

‘‘The energy of life connects us all’’

- Anonymous

"Life force energy" flows through us and causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, one is more likely to get sick or feel stress; if it is high, one is more capable of being happy and healthy. The practice does not involve physical manipulation like a massage; instead, it is typically performed through light touch or with the hands slightly above the body, with the practitioner focusing on channelling healing energy to promote balance and restoration.

The core principles of Reiki involve simplicity, peace, and self-improvement, often expressed through five precepts:

·         Just for today, I will not be angry.

·         Just for today, I will not worry.

·         Just for today, I will be grateful.

·         Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

·         Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

Reiki is used to reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing. It's commonly used as a complementary approach in holistic health settings. Reiki helps heal various physical, emotional, and mental issues as part of a holistic approach, which should also include traditional medical practice as your Doctor or Consultant recommends.   Common uses include:

·         Managing stress and anxiety

·         Improving mood

·         Enhancing overall well-being

·         Complementing medical treatment by helping alleviate side effects and promote recovery.

A Typical Reiki Session

A Reiki session typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The recipient lies fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body, using specific hand positions corresponding to the chakras. Each position is held for a few minutes, during which the practitioner channels energy to the recipient. The experience is often described as a flow of warmth or tingling in the body.
